Volunteer Spotlight: The People Who Made Our BGCLAH Summer!
Throughout our organization, our volunteers are part of what help make it happen.
Three groups of volunteers made this summer bigger than we could have made it alone!
The Little Renegades Academy at Wilmington Park
The Little Renegades Academy, a youth-led 501(c)(3), believes curious, inspired kids can change the world. Their workshops have reached more than 220 elementary students and helped more than 40 of them become published authors.
This summer, they brought that work to Wilmington Park, helping our members write and publish stories of their own.
Summer Support at Taper Elementary
Two of our volunteers, Izzy and Liana, who come from the National Charity League (NCL) Peninsula Chapter, spent their summer supporting our program at Taper Elementary with indoor and outdoor activities across academics, athletics, and the arts.
They weren't the only ones at Taper. Bailee, our intern and a Palos Verdes Peninsula student, started a program teaching English to students from kindergarten through 5th grade. As Bailee puts it, she "introduce[s] new vocabulary words to students and help[s] them improve their spelling, writing, and communication skills through interactive and engaging activities."
"Interning at the Boys and Girls Club has been an incredibly rewarding experience," Bailee tells us, "as I have developed skills applicable to my future career and grown as a person."
NCL Palos Verdes and 728 Backpacks
Finally, the NCL Palos Verdes Chapter delivered 728 back-to-school supply kits to our Wilmington region clubhouses and school sites, and our teens accepted the donation on behalf of the whole region.
That's hundreds of members walking into the school year ready!
