The Semester's Final Chord (and Summer's First)
As another incredible school year comes to a close, we want to take a moment to reflect on everything our students have accomplished through the Boys & Girls Club of the Los Angeles Harbor Music & Performing Arts Program.
From first lessons and rehearsals to performances, showcases, parades, and community events, this year has been filled with unforgettable moments of growth, creativity, and achievement. None of this would be possible without the dedication of our outstanding Music & Performing Arts staff.
Every day, our instructors go above and beyond to inspire, encourage, and develop the talents of each student. Their passion, patience, and commitment help turn dreams into reality while giving our young musicians the confidence and skills to succeed both on and off the stage.
I would also like to extend my sincere appreciation to Sandra Tovar, Director of Fine Arts, for her unwavering guidance, encouragement, and support throughout the year. Her leadership has played an important role in the continued growth and success of our programs. A special thank you also goes to Sonia Espinoza, Wilmington Regional Director, whose constant support and belief in our students and staff have strengthened our music programs across the Wilmington Region and beyond.
Finally, to all of our students, families, community partners, and loyal readers of our newsletter, thank you for being part of this incredible journey. Your continued encouragement, attendance at performances, and belief in the power of music make everything we do possible.

Banning High School Outdoor Practice June 2nd
As the semester comes to a close, the Wilmington Club's modern rock band, Subliminal, wrapped up the school year in style with a special final rehearsal held outside the music room at Banning High School. Thanks to the support and collaboration of Mighty Marching Pilot Band director Javier Ortiz, the band had the opportunity to showcase their musical talents one last time in front of fellow students and staff. It was a great way to celebrate a semester of hard work, growth, and dedication while sharing their passion for music with the school community.
San Pedro 1st Thursday On June 4th
On June 4, 2026, Mr. Oscar's Arts Academy students had the exciting opportunity to perform at the Crowne Plaza during the San Pedro First Thursday Art Walk. Students showcased a selection of songs they learned throughout this semester, along with audience favorites from past semesters. The performance gave students a chance to share their musical talents with the community while gaining valuable live performance experience in a fun and supportive setting.
Summer Music Program Throughout the Regions
During our 2026 Summer Music Camp, our students have been making the most of their summer by building their musical talents, exploring new instruments, and creating unforgettable memories across our Wilmington region. From Banning High School, Taper Elementary, Wilmington Park, Wilmington Middle School, Harry Bridges Span School, and Wilmington Park Elementary, campers have been engaged in hands-on music instruction, ensemble rehearsals, creative activities, and plenty of fun. These photos capture the excitement, teamwork, and dedication our students bring each day as they continue to grow as young musicians throughout the summer. We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and hard work shown at every site and can't wait to see what the rest of the year brings!
