The Summer of Soccer Scores Big for Harbor Area Youth!
Southern California's summer of soccer was a resounding success for our Boys & Girls Clubs of the LA Harbor Club kids! This summer, The Home Depot donated $250,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America to help fund youth programs across Greater Los Angeles, and the BGCLAH was one of five Clubs that will directly benefit.
For our Clubhouses, that means more young people across San Pedro, Wilmington, Harbor City, Harbor Gateway, and Lomita have access to arts, academics, athletics, and college and career exploration. These staple programs change trajectories and lives throughout the harbor every day.
The donation, made in partnership with U.S. Soccer's Soccer Forward Foundation and timed to the U.S. Men's National Team opening its FIFA World Cup 26 campaign in Los Angeles, supports five total member Boys & Girls Clubs: Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor, Boys and Girls Clubs of Carson, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles, and Variety Boys & Girls Club. BGCLAH joined our fellow Clubs at the celebration on July 24th at Long Beach's Westside/Freeman E. Fairfield Clubhouse.
But the check was not the only thing delivered that day. More than 100 Team Depot volunteers worked alongside Club youth to transform the Long Beach facility. They rebuilt the Club’s soccer pitch with a new digital scoreboard, spectator benches, shade sails, fresh landscaping, custom murals, and a new BBQ area. Club teens built furniture for the facility through The Home Depot Foundation's Path to Pro initiative, gaining hands-on exposure to skilled trades.
"We really want to give back to the youth," said Long Beach Team Depot Community Captain and Operations Manager Cisco de la Cruz. "They're our future, and we really want to give back. We're incredibly excited to see how this is going to turn out and impact their future."
"We're grateful to the Team Depot volunteers renovating the outdoor and indoor areas of the Long Beach Club," said Golda Steinberg, Partnership Marketing Manager at Boys & Girls Clubs of America. "They're giving back to the greater Los Angeles community through a $250,000 grant donation."
On the field and off it, we hope this successful partnership with The Home Depot is just getting started. Thank you to The Home Depot for helping us provide Great Futures!
