U.S. Rep. Nanette Barragán, California's 44th Congressional District Representative, visits the Wilmington Boys & Girls Club for a youth roundtable.

It seems like Washington is always ready to ask young people to wait their turn. On July 9th at our Wilmington Clubhouse, that way of thinking was flipped: U.S. Rep. Nanette Barragán, who represents the Harbor communities in California's 44th Congressional District, sat down with our high school age Club members for a youth roundtable, and spent the hour listening to what they had to say.

Members came with the issues shaping their futures and their country: investment in education, access to health care, guardrails for artificial intelligence, and what real participation in democracy looks like for their generation.

One member answered the congresswoman’s question about what topics they’re interested in, they answered with "free healthcare." To this, the congresswoman lit up and said, "I love that answer," before digging into the rising cost of health care with the students.

Congresswoman Barragán was born in Harbor City and raised by Mexican immigrant parents. She has represented the Harbor Area in Congress since 2017.
