Artist Spotlights

Sirena: Sirena is representing our White Point site because she has an undeniable passion for art. She took everything she learned in the Arts Academy and applied it to her art process. She shows up to every lesson eager and ready to learn with a smile. She is willing to try all new things in art and take to new techniques with open arms. Sirena is always a joy to have in class

Riley: Riley is an outstanding 8th grader at Fleming Middle School who has been an active part of the art program for the past three years. Riley is driven, creative, and an exceptional writer who consistently demonstrates dedication in everything he does. He works especially hard in his academics, always striving to do his best and take pride in his achievements.

Riley has strong work ethic, respectful, dependable, and a positive influence on those around him. His passion for learning and commitment to personal growth make him a valued student and a wonderful representative of the Boys & Girls Club.

Katherin: Katherin, is a talented fourth-grade art student from Gulf Avenue who has been part of the art program since she was in third grade. From the very beginning, Katherin showed a strong interest in drawing and painting, and over time she has continued to grow both artistically and creatively. Through hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm, she has developed impressive skills and a unique artistic style that reflects her imagination and passion for art.

Harbor Gateway Region Mother’s Day Celebration

This Mother’s Day, our Harbor Gateway Region came together to celebrate and honor the incredible mothers and loved ones who continue to support, inspire, and uplift our members every day.

Our families were able to create and enjoy meaningful moments together, and experience a beautiful Fine Arts Showcase featuring our members’ talent, creativity, and self-expression. From artwork displays to interactive experiences, the event highlighted the importance of family, community, and the arts in bringing people together.

We are grateful to all the mothers, guardians, and loved ones who joined us and made this celebration so special.

Cinco de Mayo

As part of the Cultural Enrichment Program, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor welcomed the Wilmington Folklórico Dance Group to all three regions for a special Cinco de Mayo celebration. Youth and staff enjoyed vibrant traditional Mexican dance performances featuring colorful dresses, lively music, and choreography that highlighted Mexico’s rich cultural traditions.

Members also participated in arts and crafts activities inspired by Mexican culture, creating themed artwork and handmade projects while exploring creativity, cultural awareness, and self-expression.

Asian American & Pacific Islander Month

As part of the Cultural Enrichment Program, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor celebrated AAPI Heritage Month with special performances by the Tupulaga Polynesian Dance Group at the Harry Bridges Span, San Pedro, and Harbor City Elementary sites. Members experienced the vibrant traditions of Tahiti, Hawaii, Fiji, New Zealand, and Samoa through music, traditional attire, and captivating dance performances.

Youth also participated in arts and crafts activities inspired by Pacific Islander and Asian cultures, creating themed artwork while exploring creativity, cultural awareness, and selfexpression.

These experiences encouraged members to celebrate the rich traditions and contributions of AAPI communities.

Arts Academy Showcase

This month, we proudly kicked off our 13th Annual Arts Academy Showcase with a wonderful Saturday celebration at our Port of LA site. Families, friends, and community members came together to honor the creativity, hard work, and dedication of our talented members.

The showcase featured nearly 300 original works spanning Fine Arts, Video, Photography, Animation, and Digital Art, along with incredible live performances from our Music Department. From the moment guests entered the space, they were welcomed by stunning artwork that transformed the room into a vibrant display of imagination and expression.

Each piece reflected the unique perspectives of our members, instructors, and sites, highlighting the many ways our young artists explore their mediums and share their voices. During a time when creativity and connection are more important than ever, the showcase served as a beautiful reminder of the power of art and self-expression. Our bands brought energy, joy, and excitement to the afternoon, which concluded with special awards recognizing several outstanding members for their achievements and dedication.

This event would not have been possible without the support of our instructors, families, community partners, and, of course, our talented Boys & Girls Club members. The Art Department hopes this year’s showcase was both inspiring and memorable, and we look forward to continuing to create meaningful artistic experiences that bring joy to our community for years to come.
