Meet Our Youth of the Year 2017 Candidates – Jesse Perez of our San Pedro Club

“Success does not come at the first try, but after countless fails that come before it. No matter the circumstances, as long as you put your absolute best forward, you can accomplish anything.”



Jesse Perez has been a member of the San Pedro Boys & Girls Club for five years. While overcoming extensive barriers in his home life, Jesse has been able to excel academically and personally. His tenacious attitude towards life has allowed his to achieve success in almost everything he does and prove that “success does not come at the first try, but after countless fails that come before it.”

Jesse is a senior at San Pedro high school, where is participates in JV Wrestling, JV Swim, Principle Dance and Drill Team. He continues to accelerate in his academics, earning Gold and Silver Honors awards while taking multiple AP classes. Jesse’s passion for dance has helped him preserve through hardships. During his sophomore year, he auditioned for every show and never was given a solo. Jesse continued to preserve, worked on his technique and eventually was awarded the title of Mr. Dance San Pedro, the award for the best male dancer. His passion for dance is just one example of his “that no matter the circumstances, as long as you put your absolute best forward, you can accomplish anything.”

While participating in dance and academics, Jesse also is incredibly active in his community. He is a member of the Keystone Legacy Leadership Program, College Bound, Leader in Training (LIT), volunteers hundreds of hours each year as a tutor for middle school ages youth, as a summer camp counselor, and a mentor to those in need. He is also an engaged member of the San Pedro community where he can be seen at community meetings and local rallies. He hopes to have a career in either engineering or social work, while running his own dance studio.
