“Success has different meanings depending on the person, but for me, success means achieving your original goals as a young adult and continuing to build on that success without giving up.”
Jazzlyn Amezcua has been a Port of LA Club member for the past seven years. She is passionate about education and hopes to have the opportunity to speak with “our Board of Education and try to get new classes or programs to make learning more enjoyable. If we launch these new programs to make learning more enjoyable, teens will not be so stressed with all that school puts on their plates.”
Jazzlyn is a sophomore at Port of Los Angeles High School. She maintains an honors list grade point average in accelerated, honors and AP classes. While striving to keep her grades up, she is a forward on the POLAHS Girls’ Varsity Soccer team and is a member of the psychology club. Her passion for soccer has led her to be a leader on and off the field, becoming a recipient of the 2013 Future Leader of San Pedro award.
In addition to athletic and academic success, Jazzlyn is very active in her community through the Boys & Girls Club. She is a member of College Bound, Keystone and Torch Club. She also volunteers with her church, Iglesia Poder y Gloria, and has volunteered at various events such as Bids for Kids and Councilman Joe Buscaino’s Spaghetti Dinner. She ultimately hopes to attend a four year college and defines success as “achieving your original goals as a young adult and continuing to build on that success without giving up.”
