The Norris Foundation strives to enhance the quality of life through medicine, education and the arts in Southern California. They have been a long time supporter of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor, and their generosity has impacted thousands of our youth. More recently, they have given $500,000 to our Comprehensive Campaign for capital improvements, program sustainability & expansion, and endowment development. We TRULY appreciate the support of the Walter Zanino and the Norris Foundation!!
The CarMax Foundation promotes education, youth leadership, and children’s healthy living in our community. They are a first time donor and we are so excited to welcome them to the BGCLAH Family. CarMax has recently donated $10,000 to our College Bound Program, which offers academic support, case management, SAT/ACT Prep, and College readiness support, including financial aid assistance. 99% of BGCLAH College Bound members graduate from high school, with over 96% of those graduates going on to attend a College or University! Thank you to CarMax for impacting the lives of so many of our College Bound members!
Licha has been volunteering at the Club for the past year. Her passion for the Club started when she met Alex, a Club member, back in 2016 while working at Harbor UCLA Medical Center. Despite his disadvantages, Alex remained an all star student, captain of the soccer team, and had an overall positive outlook on life. As Licha got to know Alex, she learned about the Club and all the programs that Alex was involved in. She was in awe as Alex spoke about the College Prep classes, financial aid support, the books & computers he had access to at the Club and the different activities offered. Alex is now in his 3rd year at University of California, Irvine, and Licha is enjoying getting to know our other College Bound members as she volunteers. Thank you, Licha, for your support!
Joe Mirkovich joined the BGCLAH Board of Directors in 1975, making him the longest serving BGCLAH Board member! He is a managing partner at Russel, Mirkovich & Morrow, and serves as the Club’s Legal Adviser. He is a long time supporter of the Club and is always willing to step in whenever needed, lending his expertise on many committees at the BGCLAH. His generosity over the years has truly impacted thousands of youth throughout the San Pedro, Wilmington, Harbor City and Harbor Gateway areas. We are so grateful to have Joe as a Executive Board Member, Legal Adviser and generous supporter!
