Valero Celebrates its commitment to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the L.A. Harbor

Making a difference in the lives of the community is the mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor and Valero’s Wilmington Refinery has made a difference in the lives of Harbor youth for over a decade with volunteers and through their charitable foundation. Today, BGCLAH kids and staff celebrated Valero’s latest investment with a check presentation and Thanksgiving celebrations at BGCLAH’s Wilmington Clubhouse.

As an outstanding community partner, Valero has supported BGCLAH’s programs across the Los Angeles Harbor area by truly changing the landscape for youth with much needed monetary and volunteer support. Annually, Valero volunteers take on projects across BGCLAH programs and act as mentors in College Bound and the BGCLAH’s flagship program. College Bound has changed the life road for thousands of youth in the Harbor-area providing high school graduation and college pathway support.

“Valero has been a tremendous partner for well over a decade. Our Club has seen tremendous growth during that time and we’re serving more youth thanks in part to Valero’s continuous and generous support,” said BGCLAH Executive Director Mike Lansing.  “Valero has been key in making us what we are today – for that commitment we are truly grateful.”

“Building successful communities is at the core of what we do at Valero,” said Brissa Sotelo-Vargas, director of community relations & government affairs for Valero-Wilmington Refinery. “The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor with its College Bound program, has changed the path for thousands of youth in the Harbor, especially in Wilmington, giving kids the pathway to a college education, which can transform their lives – we are happy to continue our investment in their success and development.”

Valero’s latest contribution is thanks to the 2017 Valero Texas Open and Benefit for Children Golf Classic, which is committed to improving the quality of life in the local community. With proceeds from this tournament, Valero Wilmington Refinery is distributing proceeds to several youth-serving organizations in the Harbor area including BGCLAH. For a fourth consecutive time, Valero was named to the Civic 50 list by Points of Light as one of America’s most community-minded companies-the top energy company on the list.
