“Live your life to the fullest”, Eddie, BGCLAH Senior
How long have you been a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor?
I’ve been coming to the Club since 3rd grade. It’s been great to be a part of programs like Keystone, College Bound, Arts Academy, and different athletics programs. I even was able to take college courses at the Club. I’ve gained an interest in helping kids through my volunteer work with Keystone. This has helped me discover my interest in teaching, and I hope to become a teacher in the future!
What is your favorite thing about coming to the Club?
I would say the people are the best part of the Club. Everyday there hundreds of kids who come here, who want to take part in programs and take advantage of all of the resources at the Club. It’s great seeing all of the emerging leaders making a difference here.
Who is your favorite staff?
Norma, our data coordinator, has been here for 11 years. She’s watched me grow and really connects with all our members. She’s always making sure to check in on me, not only academically but also to make sure I’m supported in every aspect of my life. Norma makes sure I’m on the right track, both socially and academically. She just really gets me.
How would your life be different if you didn’t have the Club?
I would have never imagined doing everything I’m doing without the push of the Club. They help support us, and make sure we all have a path for our future. I’m going to be the first person in my family to graduate from college. I would have never been able to do that without my family and the Club. They help every member find their path, and figure out how to achieve it.
