The
goal of the College Bound program is to increase the
number of LA Harbor Area HS students who will move
through & beyond high school, thereby making them
eligible for graduation, higher education and
financial aid from the UC, CSU, CC as well as
private university/college systems. Our Mission is
to give students more confidence in themselves and
in life choices.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor (BGCLAH)
College Bound supports and augments the efforts
rendered in HS from the counselors and
college/career centers. Opportunities which can be
lost in larger environments are more accessible in
the small group or one on one approach used at BGCLAH.
The program at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los
Angeles Harbor has three main components:
-
Work with students individually to identify
educational and career goals. Assist with the
search and application processes. Provide
information on colleges and financial aid. Kathy
Logan, volunteer.
-
Interface with the school, student, and parents
via the four year plan (grades 9-12) to
accomplish the identified goals for college
entrance, and SAT/ACT registration and prep.
Yesenia Aguilar, BGCLAH Teen Academic Advisor
-
Resource and find opportunities, programs,
scholarships as well as execute logistics to
college and other related opportunities which
expand the concept of higher education into a
first person experience. Rori Roje, volunteer.
